We do business sustainably

SIT has a long-standing commitment to pursuing sustainable business through specific investments and through its team efforts. “Sustainable entrepreneurship” is a business concept that focuses on long-term investment as well as on respect for the social and natural environment where the company is based and operates. One of the primary goals for SIT is to carefully assess its products’ environmental impact throughout the supply chain, from the manufacturer to the end user.

Packaging and logistics

SIT designs its own primary and secondary packaging to be made from recyclable and biodegradable materials. Primary packaging is engineered to achieve the best volumetric efficiency during transportation, thereby greatly reducing the carbon footprint.

Optimised dimensions also reduce the use of packaging material (cardboard) hence the consumption of plant origin materials as well.

Material recycling

Here at SIT everyone is committed to the intensive separate collection of waste and unused materials in all business areas. Containers for hazardous materials are managed together with the supplier in a supply and reuse cycle, in order to be disposed of or recycled at the end of their service life. Some of the used or broken packages are processed in-house and turned into box filling material that helps to protect the brushes during transportation.

The brushes are mainly (or entirely) made of recyclable metal parts that can be disposed of separately at the end of the service life, in accordance with local legislation. When designing new products, great emphasis is placed on LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) management.

Energy saving

In 2012, SIT invested in the construction of a photovoltaic system at its facility, to strengthen its environmental commitment.

Over 1,400 m2 – 15,070 ft2 of covered area, with 870 solar panels producing 230 MWh per year. The photovoltaic system saves 45 tons of CO2, equal to processing a 6-hectare – 15-acre forest.
