Manufacturing types
Single Section Wheel Brushes
Single section wheels are single “rings” of filament with narrow brushing face made of any type of filament. Usually these single section wheels are stacked onto a metal shaft or tube.
This manufacturing solution has great flexibility since the user can assemble as many wheels as he needs in order to change the assembled roller brush face width.
Single section wheels can have different wire styles (crimped or twisted knots) and different sizes.
Crimped wire single section wheels
Applications
Crimped wire wheels are used for light surface finishing operations of any kind (tyre retreading, deburring, aluminium satin finishing, wood dusting, …) but also for other special operations (concrete coating, fluid filtering, …)

Twist knot single section wheels
Applications
Single section wheels engineered, starting from the flange, up to the materials and wire knots twisting techniques, for heavy duty applications, especially for the pipeline industry (coating removal).

Roller brushes made from single section wheels
Single section wheel brushes can be assembled on a shaft or on a tube, stacked in order to make a roller brush.
Many variables can influence this assembly process:
Width at the bore
Flanges wdth influences the combination of the wheels and the pitch, so the brush density and in the end the type of finishing.
Density can be increased by pressing the wheels before locking the roller brush or it can be decreased by using spacers between each wheel.
Lock nuts
Locking nuts are recommended when mounting single section wheels on a tube or shaft. They lock the wheels and they are often used for mounting and dragging the roller brush on the machinery.
Usually the shaft has a movable threaded lock nut at one side, to facilitate assembling and disassemlbing single section wheels, and a fixed ring nut on the other side. The kind of roller brushes can be created directly by the user assembling single section wheels on his shaft or can be supplied already assembled by SIT.
Dragging
When high working pressure and rotational speed occur, dragging systems are recommended so that single section wheels don’t slip or slide on the shaft while brushing. Among these brushing systems:
Beaded stapling
Pins
Keyways
Advantages of roller brushes made of single section wheels
- Easily interchangeable
- Chance to choose and change even only one single section wheel (not the whole roller)
- Chance to create a shaped roller brush by using single section wheels with different outer diameters
- Higher allowed peripheral speed than spiral brushes (and even higher than stapled set brushes)
- Chance to perform tests for the application by getting only a few prototypes instead of getting a whole roller/spiral brush.
